RHS Tatton Flower Show

A day out at RHS Tatton Flower Show. A real sensory experience.

One of the things we enjoy most are the school gardens. This year the schools challenge was coordinated by the Whitworth Art Gallery. We learnt that each school attended a meeting at the Whitworth earlier this year and were handed an envelope in which was contained the name of the artist on whose work their garden would be based. St Catherine's CofE primary school at Horwich were given Evelyn Dunbar, and what a good job they have made of the challenge. That's the blip.

It's always great talking to the kids about their gardens. A huge amount of effort goes into growing plants from seeds, the artwork, and thinking through how to represent artists in horticultural terms. Lots of pride and enjoyment. Lowry, Van Gogh, Anthony Gormley, Banksy, Turner, Monet, Paul Nash, Anya Galicio, Picasso ...... quite a challenge.

A big theme this year is bees. And they were everywhere. I don't know whether all the exhibitors had been asked to use bee friendly plants, but I have never seen so many bees (example in the extra). Has there been a mass migration to Tatton Park for the Show ?
