Aperture on Life

Cladonia Lichen

There were some little Poppies in the field last week but, when I went to find them today, it was too late. The frost has taken the last of the vibrant petals. In memory of all those that fight and fall in war ,I wanted something red in my blip. It is a sad world that still, with the means of today, requires to take the lives of men and woman to resolve conflict. My heart goes out to all who suffer for the ravages of war.

I was pleased to find these little lichens on my walk today. There are many diverse species of Cladonia in the UK. Not many have these highly visible red tips that give them common names of British Soldiers or Lipstick Powder Lichens. I'm not sure which one this is so will leave it as Cladonia sp.

I didn't have a camera with me so picked a very small clump and brought them home to photograph with the macro lens. They are such pretty little things and seen this close you can clearly see the lips that give it it's name. The image could be better. My efforts to tighten my tripod to stop it sliding down during the firework display only resulted in it breaking. New one on the way but the camera has slipped slightly whilst exposing this and I have to leave shortly so won't go back to square one this evening.

Tomorrow will be catch up day. Wheyhey! I might get back on track!

Today is also another day to remember. Happy Birthday Dad! Am thinking of you and sending a huge hug your way! xxx
