Trodden paths

Quite quiet today at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth hospital but of course, with it being Remembrance Day and with the hospital being home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM), all of the defence personnel were in uniform. The military staff wear their own distinctive uniforms that vary depending on whether they are serving with the Navy, Army, or Air Force (although some wear a generic green uniform, with rank insignia, depending on the area in which they work).

Looking down from the second floor restaurant this scene made me reflect that many of the staff who, at some stage, may be returning to serve in Afghanistan will be constantly subjected to unforeseen dangers depending on whichever path they choose or have to tread. Their sacrifice and the sacrifice of those before them must never be forgotten!
