GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

I left my poppy in the old cemetery this afternoon.

I have great difficulty with the last line of this inscription.

I looked up George Fuller when I got home - he was in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, in the Hood Division of the Royal Naval Division who were sent in to support the ANZACs at Gallipoli. He died with scores if not hundreds of his comrades that day, one of whom was awarded a posthumous VC. The survivors of that campaign were then sent to join the final phase of the Battle of the Somme, and after that they were involved in the second Battle of Passchendaele. I wonder if any of them came home after the War.

Gallipoli makes me think of this.
