BEE OR NOT A BEE

While I stood contemplating the white butterflies enjoying the Buddleia on the steep drive, I saw an unfamiliar, big insect sucking of the flowers.
This insect did not notice me and I could take some pictures.
At first I thought it could be a hornet, a Vespa crabro, but it wasn't one. Going through my guidebook this did not help me much.

Another hot summer day and therefore a relaxed day, with a bit reading, sleeping, eating of course, but only lightly.
