Here & There

Sierra Nevada

Rest and recreation ... for 2 weeks in the mountains with nothing in particular planned !!
Here we are in Bear Valley where D used to work in the ski season 100 million years ago, and volunteered as a helper for the annual music festival. This year is the 50th anniversary of the festival and we are here to enjoy the best of it, everything from classical to string quartets, to Tom Petty tributes and Eagles look alikes. Sadly for D many of the people she used to know have moved on of course, but not all, and she has had a good time catching up. We stayed the other night with T and H in Murphys on the way up, and they will share our rented condo here in Bear later in the programme.
Sadly too, it appears that the festival is not the big event it used to be, the opening night is not sold out, and the village is not as buzzing as we'd expected.
The photo is taken on the granite rocks that stretch for miles above the village. This is looking east at sunset, as the sky colours up from the smoke of wildfires down on the foothill (near Mariposa I believe). It has been hellishly hot down there 38-40 degrees (over 100 F), but thankfully cooler up here at 7000 feet.
Looking forward to the next 2 weeks, lots of hiking and maybe some biking too. Just good to be in the hills.
