The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris

Everytime I visit Paris, I try to head up to Montmarte. One of the great birthplaces of bohemia, cabaret and modern art. It is always bustling on a Sunday.

Paris is a moveable feast, the biggest challenge has been what image to use in my blip.

The village of Montmarte occupies the highest point of Paris, and the sugar-white cupolas of Sacré-Coeur are such a fantastic landmark.

The Sacré-Coeur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

The facade is adorned with statues of Joan of Arc and Saint Louis (in blip), both designed by H Lefebvre. The dome is the second highest point in Paris after the Eiffel Tower and has a spiral staircase to the top. The bell tower contains one of the heaviest bells in the world.
