Road Trip
We drive the 600 km from Ålesund to home, near Oslo. The software in the car has improved since our last long trip, and we manage 590 km of it autonomously, so really the driver’s job is one of supervision.
Our Model X is wonderful for driving around Norway, which involves a good deal of looking up– easy enough through the panoramic windshield, to gawp at the kilometre high Troll Wall, as we cruise under computer control, beneath the towering gneiss.
Our charging stops coincide with breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon ice cream, so no time is lost, and after a 9 a.m. start, we’re home after 10 hours.
(Note to readers from Britain, America, France, etc. If ten hours seems a long time to cover 370 miles, consider that Norwegian roads are nowhere near as good as roads in other countries. Most of the road is single-carriageway, bendy, with a 50 mph speed limit).
