Purple Prairie Clover....
....a plant native to the Midwest, and one frequently used in prairie restorations, like this area alongside Grant Park Beach. The clover's not picky about the soil, likes full sun, and is a favorite of butterflies, bees, and other pollinating insects. It blooms from late July through September, so it's right on time! It was extremely windy today, making it difficult to photograph flowers, as they were all dancing with great abandon & moving every which way! An exercise in patience!
When I was finished, Tom & I took a little stroll on the beach, watching the waves come crashing onto shore! A wonderful way to spend the morning! :))
