Dean Orphan Hospital

The Scottish Gallery of Modern Art Two was originally a home for orphans, built in 1832.

There is a rich history of this building yet the new name is modern art and the National Galleries management make no mention of what must have been a brutal existence for the children.

Today’s Blip is one of the few physical reminders of the past. The clothes poles have two levels of pins, to tie the line. The lower pins were for the young children who were expected to do their own washing.
