100 years on
This is the American Monument, erected at the Oa on Islay by the American Red Cross to commemorate the victims of the sinking of two troop ships in 1918, the Tuscania and the Otranto. You can read about it HERE.
The Oa is largely an RSPB reserve, managed by local farmers for wildlife. It's a good place to see choughs, peregrine falcons, hen harriers, even a golden eagle. Some beautiful wildflowers, too, and good views of seals on the rocks below.
This afternoon we are in the metropolis of Bowmore, where I am taking advantage of the phone signal.
Now off for another walk to take advantage of the weather, which as you can see, is much improved.
