Another cheese scone vicar?.......
......g'wan, g'wan....it's your christian duty to save a poor sinner like me.......
Cheese scones from yesterday.....er, I made 2 lots......the first batch is long gone......
But should you too feel like falling from grace.........
Preheat oven to 220deg C
Sieve together:
8 oz self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon dried mustard powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
Half teaspoon salt
Half teaspoon celery salt
Rub in:
2 oz butter
Add:
3 oz finely grated strong cheddar (other cheeses are available!)
Stir in:
1 egg beaten in an equal amount of milk until you've got a soft dough, don't knead too much, just bring it together into a ball
Press or roll out into a round about half an inch thick on a floured board
Divide into quarters (or maybe into 8, that's a very BIG plate!) and put on baking tray
Brush the tops with some of the remaining egg and milk mix
Grate a bit of parmesan (or more cheddar) on top and sprinkle with a few kalonji (onion) seeds......other seeds would work too (sesame, pumpkin.....go with your gut!)
Bake for 10-15 mins
Gobble up with lashings of butter preferably while still warm
