River Kent

Today's the day …………………………. to trickle

This, believe it or not, is the mighty River Kent that flows through the town of Kendal.

After the dry, hot summer that we have had so far, it's hard put to do anything more than trickle at the moment.  To give you some idea of where the water level would be normally, this is a footbridge that was damaged in the bad floods of December 2016 and has remained closed ever since.  The water was going over the top of it then, which was too high.  The base of the pillars are normally under water - and you wouldn't be able to see the paved section - or the big stones at the edge.

The only good thing that I can think of is that now might be a good time to mend the bridge, when there's very little water to have to cope with.  See extra for an example of that happening a bit further upstream.  No wonder a hosepipe ban comes into force on 5th August …………………...
