Bringing in the bugs
We've come home to two wren couples busy feeding babies. One couple has built a nest in a regulation wren house on the barn. The other in a decorative, tiny house covered with seeds for winter birds, basically a decoration we've placed near our house. I mentioned that they were scouting it out before we left for Machiasport. Both families seem to be doing well, even the ones in the tiny house. Having a second pair comes as a real surprise, we have never had more than one pair in the garden. I'm thrilled because they sing and are so busy and fun to watch. They do a great service, ridding us of so many bugs. One wren in the couple living closest to the house is molting and not looking so dapper. My brother was here earlier and we watched that wren flying low, chasing a chipmunk at the chippie's level. It was close to the ground, in hot on it's tail, shooing it away from the nest.
For the Record,
This day came in hot and humid. No sea breezes to lessen the heat.
All hands reluctantly back in our regular schedule.
