Mystery instrument

This has come out of the loft of a friends sister. It's a wonderful home made banjo/banjolele I think. I am not sure.

I think it is Irish in origin. I have no idea what the skin is. I am not sure if it is pig but it appears to have lines drawn on it and some letters and numbers. The strings were cut and i think were just normal cheap ukulele strings I have no idea when it was last played or what it's tuning was. Any help would be gratefully received. I am going to purchase some uke strings and go from there.

It's a little bit bigger than my standard UKE so more concert sized.

It's an honour to have it in my possession. I wish it could talk.
