Miracles of Medicine
These old peculiarities are ornaments of original x-ray equipment, dating from the late 1800s. (In the extras is a film from 1897 of a fractured elbow and a photograph of a motley crue of nurses from 1905.)
I’m at a hospital in St Helen’s, accompanying Padre for an eye exam (madman wants to have elective laser treatment).
I can’t help but wonder at the absolutely incredible advances in medicine and surgery over the last century. What incredible brains have existed to ensure our safety, our survival rates, our curabilty. We owe our lives to these individuals. It blows my mind and renders me tearfully grateful that we can be so (relatively) easily fixed - compared to days gone by.
Looking at these old relics is so very humbling.
