Wide Blue Yonder
Driving home on Sunday, I noticed this swathe of blue under Pennielheugh, and this morning we set off to find it. We hiked up the edge of the bean field below, expecting to find a flax crop - but it wasn't. Neither of us had a clue.
When we got home - after a scone and coffee in the Walled Garden (it would have been rude just to have driven straight by!) - a bit of googling produced the answer. It is Phacelia tanacetifolia, otherwise known as blue tansy. It is grown as a green manure, a bee plant, and an attractant for insects.
It's nice to know that someone is taking care of the pollinators! And it is quite a pretty plant. (Extra)
I'm afraid that it doesn't fit today's Wide Angle challenge theme by any stretch of the imagination (ouch), but I did use my WA lens, so I'm tagging it anyway! Thanks, BobBlips, for hosting.
