Tutored
A pre-planned day today with a 1:1 (well, 2) day with Chris Gilbert, a photographer who lives and works in the Peak District. I have to say that I have been quite cynical previously about the faffing that is required with tripods and technical info but there was some theoretical tuition which debunked some of the technical stuff before we headed out to put it into practice. We headed up to Ladybower Reservoir which was at really low levels and offers some interesting striations. Then to Water-Cum-Jolly for river reflections and finally Monsal Dale for the weir with the shot I am proudest of. Between those last two we saw a little owl sunning himself on one of the dry stone walls close to a dilapidated barn. Not the sharpest of images but it was a real treat to see him.
A full-on day meant we weren't back at the cottage until gone half nine. It was very definitely worth it with quite a few shots out of the 126 that I am pleased with and an improved knowledge of what my camera is capable of without me needing to have too much of a head full of numbers. Not something that ever goes well with my head which generally prefers to be full of words.
