He saw that Monsieur le Chef was about to step right onto a snake.
Crikey, he thought, no-one else has noticed. What do I do now?
Monsieur, he whispered. Monsieur.
Speak up Minny, what iz ze matter?
Monsieur, don't step backward there is a snake right behind you. You are about to step onto it's rattle.
Monsieur le Chef looked at at Minny as though he was an alien. Rubbish he said - there are no snakes in ze forest. Mon Dieu, are you living in ze land of ze fantasies. Zis iz not Oz, it iz only in Oztralia zat you get ze deadly snakes, no?
And he looked over his shoulder, and shouted with laughter. Oh Minny you are indeed a person of ze city. Zis is no snake, it'z..... my rubber toy snake yelled the kid called Michel. I wondered where it had gone to. I never thought anyone would believe it was real. For starters you don't get grey rattle snakes.
Once again, Minny felt himself shrinking to the size of an ant. He looked out over the swamp, and this time his blood really did run cold. He saw .......
