Surprised again!

This rather unassuming little moth caught in my trap last night is in fact the Oak Processionary moth Thaumetopoea processionea,  a non-native species of moth that is not only a risk to oak trees as the large nests of larvae will defoliate one very rapidly it is also a risk to humans as the larvae which cluster in large quantities have irritating hairs which can cause skin rashes and asthma.
Luckily this moth was male, and as males can travel large distances in search of females DEFRA would not have been interested and he lived to see another day!
An interesting addition to my garden list though!
