Is it a bird?......

This is the november picture on my calendar.It is of an animal named chikko. It is one of card factory's (the shop) main characters.

Now i need your opinion, because chikko is black with yellow/orange feet that should make him a penguin right? Well apparently he is an owl! My gran who works at card factory says they sell bookmarks with chikko on, and on them they say 'chikko sits up in his tree singing hoot hoot.' And there are some very silly people like my dad who thinks chikko is a chicken!?!?! I honestly don't know where that came from.
