Monsoon
Straight from the diary - "Sweating on the balcony. Like a dog. Before 8"
Cooled off in the sea, packed up our stuff and checked out for 11. Diner breakfast stop on 192 en route south to Miami Beach. Three and a bit hours later and we were there, right in the heart of all the art deco architecture and the mix of families and young folk out to party. Our hotel, The Shepley, is a little place built in the 1930s and has bags of character, almost tempting to stop in and enjoy the ambience but explore we must!
We had a wander and a look at Ocean Drive, as well as a little sit on the beach, but really, with the thermometer on the beach reading over 100, it was quite hard work walking anywhere further than you really needed to. So, it was back to the hotel to freshen up and then head out for some food on our last night in the USA. And then when we were out for aforementioned food, we experienced the ''tropical monsoon' climate of this part of Florida in full, sheltering in the ice cream parlour's doorway as the heavens opened, the thunder rolled and the streets flooded within minutes. All rather exciting. And all over within thirty minutes.
