The Death of Grass

This photo and the many images of brown grass from up and down the country have put me in mind of John Christopher's dystopian novel, 'The Death of Grass'. In it, an ecological disaster occurs when some sort of virus causes grass to turn brown, wither away and die. The resulting consequences for wildlife and farming result in the complete breakdown of society. One of the scariest things about the book is the speed at which things unravel, and how vicious people become as they take steps to survive. We're never that far away from savagery really.........
