West Highland Yachting Week

After a dull start the day brightened up, a good thing as a few members of Oban Photographic Club were off to the Isle of Seil to photograph the yachts coming up from Craobh Haven to Oban.

We walked right around the bay, found positions on the rocks under the towering cliffs, and waited for the yachts to appear around the cliffs of Easdale Island.

Quite a sight, all those yachts with their colourful spinnakers jostling for position with the cliffs of the Isle of Mull in the background. I took loads of pictures, pictures that I wish had been sharper, but were taken hand held with my 270mm zoom on a windy day. My Tamron 18-270mm lens is maybe not of the highest quality, though it's probably good enough for what I do.

After an exhilarating few hours it began to cloud over, but we'd made the best of the day. My extra is of a deceptively quiet main street in Ellenabeich - down at the harbour, out of sight, were hordes of cars and visitors!
