Keeping road free for trucks
Have been looking at the overhanging trees at our entrance since spring & wondering how long it would be before the authorities came to say we had to cut them back. Organised it about 5 years ago & it was not cheap.
Early this morning, a truck & trailer, Unimog with branch cutter & 4 men dressed in orange stood in the yard. They are from the State of Bavaria Road Authority as our road is a state road as opposed to a county or parish road where other teams are responsible. Quickly offered a cup of coffee & they asked if I would like them to cut the branches back. Yes please & after coffee they set to business & did a great job, even clearing away all the branches & twigs. Apart from coffee, didn't cost a thing.
For those interested, there are very few agricultural hedges as we know them in the UK thanks to the German will laws & Land reforms. I know quite a few farmers but none have hedges and none a hedge mower. It is my ambition to surround our property with hedges but I need to visit the UK with car & trailer to buy (a used & cheap!) one. The guys from the road authorities told me their machine is great for large branches but useless for scrub & twigs.
Am waiting for the electricity company to send contractors in to trim back trees in our garden & neighbouring state forest which are too close to power lines. Luckily this is also "free" read included in the over expensive electricity bill!
