This is a crimson rosella, one of a pair who have been visiting us recently. We make sure to have a good supply of weeds and weed seeds in the garden for them to nibble on (haha), and they seem to love it!
It was a lovely cool sunny morning so I went into the garden to photograph flowers, leaves, trees, etc. After getting heaps of pics of the banana suckers, comfrey flowers, etc, the rosellas turned up, so I thought I'd see how I'd go with them. Fortunately they didn't seem too fazed by my presence, although they were certainly keeping an eye on me, in case I turned predatory.
Gosh they're hard to photograph! I took sooooo many pics that turned out slightly blurred, or the bird had changed position by the time I clicked, or had even gone out of the frame! Great fun though, and I will persist - somehow I think they'll be back a few more times. I'll try and get one of the two of them showing their back plumage, which is rather gorgeous.
