Modern children's literature
I have spent some of my time this week online shopping for Christmas. My blip is a book I have bought for two of my friends boys, both of whom happen to be fellow teachers. A good book for a child should grasp their attention, allow them to ask questions, teach them and most importantly they should enjoy it. This book covers all those areas.
Born in the 70's I did not have tongue in cheek books like this. My favourite book was The tiger who came to tea. The selection of books available when I was a child( cue Hovis theme tune) were nothing in comparison to what children have today. I love reading. My house is full of books and as a teacher I have encouraged all my classes to enjoy reading. Children's literature now is so exciting. It gives all children the opportunity to get excited about the printed word from an early age.
P.S. This book is great for young kids and Santa does not wet himself in the end. Phew :-)
