New life

These are what the caterpillars of Large and Small white butterflies look like when they are less than a day old. The black headed ones are Large whites and the all-yellow ones (of which there are fewer) sitting above and to the left are Small whites. They are on a tray of young cabbages which I saw on a market stall- I had no intention of growing or eating cabbages this year but I felt I couldn't just walk past those batches of yellow eggs without giving them a home where they'll be left to grow in peace. To me, their lives are important. And i've always had a soft spot for caterpillars!
