Fort Collins Museum of Discovery
We spent several hours today in the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, a hands-on, eclectic delight of a museum for folks of all ages.
I was taken by this skeleton of Bison antiquus, an Ice Age predecessor of the American bison familiar to all those who grew up watching cowboy movies — and of course to the Native Americans who shared the land with them. It’s not easy to see in the photo, but behind the ancient skeleton is a modern bison, which is 15-25% smaller than its Ice Age ancestor.
We’re been exploring Fort Collins on foot, so it’s been easy to get 10,000 or more steps most days. I’ll miss the pleasure of walking to so many places! Thursday is our last full day here, and then it’s on to Denver to meet up with our Road Scholar tour group on Friday afternoon. It will be “all go” for the next week!
