Spreading outwards
This working week has felt long and tiring, and I am glad to have been able to get away north to spend a couple of days at the beachhouse.
Before we headed away, I read the last couple of chapters of Hellburner by CJ Cherryh. First published in 1992, it is a science fiction classic now. Cherryh's story is set in the future and in space, where she explores interpersonal relationships, the effects of physical and psychological trauma, and the dangers posed by uncontrolled corporations, venal politicians, and power struggles for the sake more of having power than what might be done with the power. A really complex story, which could be read as no more than a space opera.
