Oxford Trail
Today we drove to Oxford to meet up with friend Miriam and my nephew Jonathan whom I haven't seen or spoken to since 2011!
Miriam is doing a two-week theology course at Christ Church and is studying about CS Lewis, so the Eagle and Child pub was chosen to eat at. They seemed to be struggling to get their act together, opening an hour late, but it meant that we were the first customers to walk in and didn't have to queue for a table! Jon joined us there, and after lunch, we walked towards the river to have Oxford's own ice cream, then a walk along the river, then a cup of tea before finally heading back to the car. I have to say, I really like the new Westgate Shopping Centre.
We took Miriam and Jon to The Kilns in Risinghurst, CS Lewis' home for thirty-three years, and we all enjoyed a walk through his woodland where he got some inspiration to write the Narnia Chronicles.
We dropped Jon back to his student accommodation and then Miriam back to hers, and had a very smooth journey back with no hold ups. It's been a great day, and best of all, it wasn't as hot as yesterday!
