The remains of Onekaka Wharf

The sea at Onekaka in Golden Bay seems benign.  The beach slopes only gradually down to the water, and the waves are small.  However, devastation has occurred here.  The road to the wharf has disappeared entirely, ending with a steep drop-off.  So at some time, a combination of high seas, and high water flow down the river, has cut off access.
