Lá Lúnasa
Usually observed from the 1st August but I think it's technically today this year.
One of the great Celtic festivals, Lughnasadh (yes it can be spelt many different ways) or Lammas in the UK marks the start of the harvest season and a celebration of the God lugh. If you're desperate to know more Monumental Ireland has a good description on his Facebook page. It also heralds in Autumn and there is a distinct Autumnal feel already. The rowan berries are ripe, I've picked tons of blackberries and the temperature has dropped.
I went up to the local stone circle, offerings for Lugh picked en route. Not a soul around.
Off to North Cork tomorrow. Himself is walking the last stretch of the Slí Mhuscrai which we postponed a month ago when temperatures were just too hot! And I have a long list of potential wells - none, it has to be said, looking terribly exciting. We shall rendezvous in Millstreet and have a rather romantic looking airbnb booked to the east of Kanturk! Catch up in a couple of days.
And here's a bit more of Lunasa to enjoy .
And I'm very honoured by the blip profile. Thanks so much to JoeyG who did all the hard work and managed to make sense of it all! Right - off well hunting.
