Kingsfold
The day began with a very productive morning - me doing the ironing and G waterproofing cardboard to keep the sun out, it was fantastic to have some light rain showers and slightly cooler temperatures! Geraldine even got her tiny bag packed to fly up North to visit friends there.
We decided to go out for a drive, heading East on the A25 towards Dorking, but before we knew it, at my request, we were on the A24 heading South. I wanted to go to Kingsfold - a little village we've driven through a couple of time on our way to or from the South Coast.
The main reason is shown in my extra. Not a great picture but it tells the story. Some of you might know of my fascination with melodies and their tune names e.g. I discovered Forest Green is nearby, and on Boxing Day last year, I finally got to Camberwell. Kingsfold is the name of a beautiful melody perfected by Vaugh Williams. You can listen to it here if you're interested. It is most popularly known as the hymn "I heard the voice of Jesus say." On doing some research on Vaugh Williams tonight, I think he is also the person behind Forest Green.
So, we drove through Kingsfold but as it is so tiny, we had to turn around and try again. The Owl pub is the most obvious building there, so we parked up and went in for a Guinness. There was a friendly guy at the bar, so we asked him where the village church was. He said there wasn't one; the nearest one was in the next village. G then mentioned the tune, and he immediately pointed to a picture frame behind him - which happened to tell the story of the melody and its association with Kingsfold! There you go. He had never heard the tune/hymn, so we played it for him. Glad to say, he liked it and thought it was lovely!
We decided to stay for dinner and came home via Lidl's. It rained some more! Woohoo. :)
