Greece Holiday Day 16

8/8/2018 - Text to follow and proper photos rather than video still collage.

Back in the mid to late 1970s, my then employer "Grand Metropolitan Hotels" won the contract to manage the newly built massive, mega, luxury holiday resort of Porto Carrason the second finger of the Chalkidiki peninsula. Built by a Greek tycoon, it was in 2003 the venue of an EU Summit.

As I was in a central auditing role for the group, we were told to get ready to spend a week or two "having" to carry out audits there. Stories were already coming in of somewhat unusual accounting "practices" despite the complex having been kitted out with these "new " computer things. The complex consisted of four hotel/apartment units and guests were free to eat and drink at any of them and of course sign the bill which would be included in the final invoice when they checked out. Easy. Well not quite. Networks was not "big" just yet, so an employee had to constantly bicycle between the various units and pick up the various signed bits of paper from the individual bars and restaurants and take them to the "home" unit to be entered by the reception/accounting staff there manually.

My business trips to Porto Carras never materialised but today we didn't spend too much time there other than walking around and enjoying the atmosphere. Then carried on by car to more "rural" areas and did a complete drive of the dirttracks along the coast of the Sithonian "finger"
