Richard Thompson

To Gawsworth Hall with Martin to see legendary guitarist/singer/songwriter Richard Thompson and his Electric Trio.  Gawsworth is a well-preserved Tudor House, near Macclesfield. Each summer for many years it has hosted theatrical and musical entertainments in its gardens with the fabulous backdrop of the house.

I hadn't previously seen him play live. Today, with his Electric Trio (in fact there were four of them, so great value for money) they played some new and old songs, powerfully and impeccably. However, unexpectedly (as I am usually one for a lot of amplified noise) his acoustic songs were the most impressive. His guitar technique sounds as though there are at least two if not three people playing when it is just him, playing solo, for example on Beeswing.. The crowd loved it.
