Saimaa Canal

Having 9,5 km's evening walk at Saimaa Canal.  Lovely warm, almost hot weather again, even in the evening, but I like it.

Today the new canal had it's 50th anniversary, which was also celebrated in town. New canal can be seen on the left side and the old canal on the right side has been built ready on 26th of August 1856. Both canals are the only inland waterway to the sea from 120 interconnected lakes of the south-central and south-east part of Finland. Overall lenght of the canal is 42,9 km's, where 23,3 km's is on Finnish part and 19,6 km's on Russian part, which has been rent from Russia for 50 years.
