Two Base Hit

After visiting the dentist in the morning to get some more painkillers - yes, the pain still continues after the painkiller wears off - I went to Koshien Stadium in the afternoon. I watched two and a half great games in the High School Baseball Tournament.

I arrived at the start of the fifth inning of the game between Nichi Dai San and Orio Aishin Junior College. At that point, Nichi Dai San were leading 13 points to 1. They then picked up another three points in the seventh inning. Orio Aishin scored a home run to collect two more points in the eighth inning, but the game ended with an impressive 16-3 victory to Nichidai High School. I would have liked to have seen the Fukuoka team beat the more prestigious Nichidai team but there you are. Congratulations to the victors.

The next game was Nara Daigaku Fuzoku against Haguro High School. Of course I was rooting for the Nara team, as were most people in the stadium I imagine, and they lead the whole way. The first ball they hit was a two base hit. Haguro didn't score until the fifth inning, taking the score 3 to 1 in Nara's favour. Nara then scored another point in eighth inning, taking it to 4 points to 1 at the top of the ninth. Then, at the bottom of the ninth, it looked as if Haguro might snatch victory from the jaws of defeat as they had three loaded bases with one man out. Luckily, the pitcher then struck two men out in succession to prevent Haguro from capitalising on their impressive set-up. You could hear a massive sigh of relief before the final cheer.

Well done to all who played so incredibly.

Please enjoy this year's Koshien High School Baseball Tournament Theme by the incredibly popular Japanese boy band, Arashi. The song is called Natsu Hayate (Summer Breeze.)
