Figs
In Manchester! And they taste delicious especially with a little Serrano ham if you ain’t a veggie. Also plums apples kale runner beans tomatoes in the garden - just waiting on the grapes. Post Brexit growing our own won’t just be for pleasure but a necessity
On the other hand this is DH Lawrence’s lubricious take on the secret fruit - only a very brief extract to save one’s blushes.
1The proper way to eat a fig, in society,
2Is to split it in four, holding it by the stump,
3And open it, so that it is a glittering, rosy, moist, honied, heavy-petalled four-petalled flower.
4Then you throw away the skin
5Which is just like a four-sepalled calyx,
6After you have taken off the blossom with your lips.
7But the vulgar way
8Is just to put your mouth to the crack, and take out the flesh in one bite.
9Every fruit has its secret.
