Hip Hip Hooray Its Burryman Day!

I found out yesterday that today is Burryman Day. I had no idea what that meant but headed down to South Queensferry today with a few friends to see him. It is believed to have been started in the 12th century. A man born in South Queensferry is covered in Burrs and walks the streets of the area whilst stopping in the bars to have a whisky with a straw! It is to bring good luck - the men at either side are his 'helpers'! Each man chosen is the Burryman for 5 years. Very weird tradition but pleased to have seen it!
