I walk past this tree stump loads and every time marvel at the rings. The evidence of the massive change in the trees size over time  is clear yet it would take many years of this seemingly insignificant growth for the casual observer to even notice. 
On a day when making every small (insignificant to the casual observer) choice was a hard fought battle, the stump reminds me that growth is happening and one day it'll be obvious.
