Walmer Castle
After much changing of our minds today due to weather forecast we decided to go with the original plan of visiting Walmer Castle. It was sunny when we set off, but due to form, the rain arrived at the same time as we did!
It would appear that Mr L has turned into his mother! As soon as we arrived he wanted a cuppa! So, tea drip ink (and cheese scone consumed) we went into the castle. A good visit, a Castle built as a fortress during Henry VIII’s reign and later used as a residence for the Warden of the Cinque Ports, one of whom was Wellington. A good mix of museum and residence. The photo of the gun shows the dismal weather and rain, which did mean we couldn’t visit the highly commended gardens (it was bucketing down by this point), so we made our way back to the car. I wanted one photo of the front, but there was a group of people sheltering, thank you to My American friend for the Snapseed app recommendation, because I have erased them!
We had noticed on the satnav, a shop called The Range about half way between Home and the Castle, so made a detour on the way home. We had not realised we had one so close, having always made the effort to visit the Chatham store when ‘back home’. Just in case we didn’t come this way for a while, I bought four new cushions and some odds and sods!
Finished the day at Demetrios, which we haven’t been to in a while. Food still good, but prices much elevated and whilst it was all pleasant, it was all easily done at home, at a fraction of the cost, so I don’t think we will bother again.
But look at the rainbows, just after we got home! I wish I had been out still and got the shot over the sea, but hey ho, by the time I had got th car out, it would have gone.
A good day, and hoping for better weather tomorrow for Brenda’s BBQ. Another get together of good friends.
