Empty space
*Backblip*
I believe that 'empty' space in photography is a wonderful tool in composition to draw attention to a subject, to encourage the eye to see something a bit different or for a number of other purposes. This is a poor example, but was taken in the pub after the Oxford Photographic Society meeting. It was a competition night, and anyone who is part of a camera club will know, there are various kinds of judges. One of the categories is the judge with a specific nit to pick. Today, the thing the judge objected to was empty space in a photo. The slightest little bit meant advice to crop closer... Ah the joys of camera club competitions! At least it gave us something to laugh at in the pub.
