Chernobyl

I didn't want to take photos of the kids so I took a really bad one of my daughter and nieces providing the music for a farewell ceilidh for the 6 girls who came to stay for a few weeks for what is called a recuperative holiday, they get clean air, medical help and lots of new experiences and come with a supportive adult who can help them cope with the new environment. The kids totally embraced ceilidh dancing and were beside themselves with excitement throughout the slightly fixed raffle! The impact of chernobyl still ripples on, economics and health issues mean the families have no opportunity to blossom or progress and they have to deal with poverty and loss every day.it was a privilege to see the on going connection between Aberdeenshire and Belarus and the relationships the host families have with the kids.
