female crossbill
...after the rain cleared, we went back to Rempstone Heath to see if I could get any closer, more detailed shots of the crossbills. After watching and waiting patiently for ages, it was obvious that they were not going to descend to the lower branches of the pines so I had to make do with a few images of 'specks' on the tree-tops. I blipped a male on Saturday and have chosen a female on top of a Corsican Pine today. As you can see, she is green rather than red. I will make a few more visits over winter in the hope of some better photographs...
