Fringe Saturday

(or carb overload). Off early to the city for my first show, preceded by a bacon roll in the Traverse cafe. Mark Thomas, NHS @ 70, was brilliant. Less polemic and more care than normal but excellent. And as he did acknowledge there is no market in NHS Scotland but we do have the RIE PFI, and the expensive car park.

Then a stroll round the Farmers" Market and the Gardens via the Ross Fountain and the Floral Clock. The poppy and soldiers come out much better in the photo than in life. And for the first time since I was a kid I saw the cuckoo.

Next "Brexit" at Pleasance Beyond. Mike McShane is a lot summer but still as shouty. There wasn't enough time to get a proper lunch so I had a cheese toastie. Mmm, should have brought an apple.

Arthur Smith's history of his dad was very good, very touching and funny.

Next, the Upside Purple Cow for @NewsRevue. A bare hour but 4 young folk with energy and amazing singing voices.

There was a lull, and time for a G&T, before we fought our way to Vittorio"s for flat bread, and bruschetta and pizza, which I couldn't finish. Accompanied by lots of water. We got complimentary chocolate cake to finish.

The town, of course, was mobbed with happy people but I went home, to bed.
