Damp Thistle
Looks like we had a good dose of rain overnight - the ground looks quite wet. It was still raining around about 7 a.m. so we didn’t get out for a walk until after breakfast.
The thistle heads and seeds looked quite nice with some droplets of rain on them. Whilst walking across the potato field I noticed something I have never seen before - little green ‘fruit’ growing on the tops of the plants where the flowers were (see extra). They are about a centimetre in diameter and look like little cherry tomatoes. A little googling tells me that potatoes are indeed related to tomatoes which is why there is a similarity. However, these fruit are poisonous! They are full of the same green compound that makes potatoes themselves go green when they are exposed to light - hence why you don’t eat green potatoes.
In the afternoon we will be packing up and decamping to our daughter’s house - we are staying a few days to help out whilst mum and dad get into the routine of a new baby. One sleep to go….
