A New Floating Dock
We use floating docks here as a platform to get into a boat, or for visitors coming via boat to hook up to, or for launching kayaks or canoes in the river since we don't have a beach. One of the floating docks Steve made about 5 years ago sprung a leak and then got too heavy with water to be able to use -- it was our kayak launching one. Now that Steve's recovered from his hip replacement, he is building us a new floating dock!
This one is made of foam sandwiched together (nice & light) with a wooden frame for cleats, etc and overall strength. It will be covered with fiberglass cloth and epoxy and painted. This one will have a different design that the last one, an improvement! The bars to balance a kayak on will be coming out of this piece, but the other side of the floating dock (not built yet) will be able to be butted up next to the side you see here -OR pulled out so you can launch the kayak, balancing on the connecting bars. I will show you when it it finished! I have more photos from yesterday's build here if you are interested.
