Swiss Flags and Flowers
I had to show you these beautiful flags of Switzerland and also the wonderful window-boxes overflowing with luscious cascades of geraniums.
The flags from the upper left:
- The well-known Swiss flag of a white cross on a red background
- The thirteen eye-catching stars of the Canton of Valais. The stars represent the thirteen districts.
- The Zermatt flag, representing a lion with a very long tongue.
I've included an old chalet, dated 1873, showing pretty wooden shutters with a cut-out heart design and those glorious geraniums!
The name of ZERMATT, as well as that of the Matterhorn Mountain itself, derives from 'alpine meadows', or matten, (in German), in the valley.
This is a back-blip.
