Culture and all that stuff

This batik is on my wall. It was a gift, and I look at it every day. Today for some reason I realised that Jesus is not white! Of course, you say... But I genuinely hadn't noticed. You could say I was culturally colour blind.
It is an African creation so Jesus is perceived through the lens of the artist as from that background. Just like our ladybird books depict him as white, anglo saxon.
So often we are unaware of our cultural norms, thinking that that's how everyone feels or does things.
We are enriched when we take time to look at life through the lens of "the other".
